About Me

Welcome to Oaks Hypnotherapy! My name is Carys Clargo and I’m a professional hypnotherapist based in Oakdale, near Blackwood, in the Caerphilly borough. Hypnotherapy can help us to improve our lives in so many ways. Maybe you’re suffering from stress, or being held back by anxiety; perhaps you need help to stop smoking or to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy weight loss. Whatever the issue, hypnotherapy can be extremely effective in bringing about positive change. Having experienced stress and anxiety-related issues myself in the past, I fully understand how severe an impact they can have on our lives. However, since discovering the wonderful benefits of hypnosis, these issues are now under control and my life is balanced and positive. Learning techniques to help manage the symptoms turned everything around for me, and I’m really happy to share these with you. Hypnotherapy, however, shouldn’t be thought of as a miracle cure. Although it is possible to achieve positive change in a relatively short space of time, it does require a level of commitment in order to fully benefit. I will explain things in further detail during your initial consultation. More detailed information on the specific issues I may be able to help you with can be found in the Available Treatments menu above.

At the present time in the UK, hypnotherapy is an unregulated profession, meaning anyone is able to go into practice. Therefore, if you are considering hypnotherapy, it’s really important to undertake some initial research. In particular, you should ensure that the practitioner:

  • has been appropriately trained, meeting the requirements of a professional body;
  • abides by the ethical guidelines of a professional body;
  • is professionally registered;
  • holds the appropriate insurance for hypnotherapy practice.

I completed my practitioner training at the College of Clinical and Medical Hypnosis in South Wales, under the expert, private tuition of Dr Lyn Bateman. This professional training is accredited by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). Additionally, I am registered within the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR).

In addition to my accredited training, I also hold a First-class Honours degree in Psychology (British Psychological Society accredited), and have studied a range of perspectives and traditions in the discipline, including individual differences. With this in mind, all of my hypnotherapy sessions are designed specifically for the individual needs and expectations of each of my clients. Therefore, I never adopt a generic ‘one size fits all’ approach. Each of my sessions is bespoke, tailor-made for every client, and designed for quick, effective and lasting change.

If you decide to get in touch, you’ll find me professional, friendly and very open about how hypnosis has benefited me. I pride myself on being an ethical practitioner and believe that hypnotherapy should be accessible to as many people as possible, which is reflected in my pricing. All of my sessions are equally priced and I occasionally offer discount on specific treatments so that more people have access to therapy. Details of any discounted sessions are visible on the individual pages in the Available Treatments menu (terms and conditions apply). The initial consultation typically lasts for an hour and allows us to discuss the issue you are concerned about. This time also allows me to answer any questions you may have about hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I don’t sell packages of treatment, preferring to work on a session by session basis. That way, you’ll never be tied into attending sessions that you don’t need, and we can terminate treatment at the earliest time consistent with your good care.

Finally, hypnotherapy is enjoyable! All of my sessions are designed to give you a positive, uplifting and empowering experience that may change your life!

‘Thanks for your help Carys, I came to you seeking an answer to a problem that I have endured for ten years or more. I take part in a group activity that I help to run, during this activity when I take responsibility for the group, I have to stand before up to 30 people and explain what will happen and what risks are involved during the next few hours. I have always had an aversion to public speaking, I get anxious and nervous the evening before, and also on the way to the venue, this has the unpleasant effect making me incontinent, I saw my G.P who recommended that I give up the activity, this I declined to do and so sought the help of Carys at Oaks Hypnotherapy. We had a long consultation, followed a week later by the first session of hypnotherapy, I found this to be a pleasant experience, and on driving home was aware of being more relaxed than I am normally. Days later I visited my autistic grandson, who because of his condition is hyperactive and repetitive, I have always found it stressful to stay with him for any length of time and get very irritable, but I found that I was calm and relaxed, I was able to interact with him and after two hours was still happy in his company. My wife observed that after a shopping trip how different my behaviour was and how I had no complaints about taking her shopping and how relaxed and easy going I was. Finally, having met with my group on three occasions, I was cool, calm and collected, I fulfilled my duties with calmness and confidence, and no nasty surprises. I would recommend anyone who has a problem with anxiety and nervousness to seek help and ask for a consultation at Oaks Hypnotherapy. Thank you again Carys.’ Mr B – Gwent.

Smoking Cessation

‘I had tried to stop smoking for many years with little or no success. I met with Carys for a free consultation and then had two sessions of hypnotherapy. I felt energised after each session and eager to put her work to the test. Success. I haven’t wanted to smoke and the thought of it now repulses me. Thank you so much Carys, you have changed my life. I wish you every success for the future’ LS, Blackwood, Gwent

Fear Of Flying

‘After being involved in an air crash in 1999 it has become progressively harder for me to fly. I hoped that by flying every year it would become easier, but the stress and anxiety only got worse. In 2015 I decided not to fly again, as I could not cope with the feelings of extreme anxiety, which would usually ruin my holiday. That was until my husband and I had to plan our honeymoon. I didn’t want my fear of flying to restrict us, so we went all out and booked a 10 hour flight to Mexico! I was willing to try anything to make flying bearable, so I turned to Oaks Hypnotherapy. I was not convinced that I was lucky enough for hypnotherapy to work for me, but I was determined to give it a go, and I can now say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made! Carys was a fantastic practitioner and tried everything possible to help me. I didn’t feel particularly different after my sessions, but the proof was in the pudding when I arrived at the airport. None of the usual anxiety, shakes, tears and nausea. I felt so in control and went on to complete a 10 hour flight with relative ease. I was so amazed and still can’t quite believe I did it. I was not expecting such drastic results! This has now opened up a whole new world for me and I have Carys to thank for that. If you are considering giving hypnotherapy a go, please do, as it may just change your life.’ KG, Blackwood, Caerphilly

Smoking Cessation

‘I had hypnotherapy to quit smoking, I was smoking 20 a day for 13 years, I had 2 sessions with Carys and haven’t had a cigarette since my 1st session! It works.  One month today smoke free, no substitute! Great service, excellent value for money, no price on life itself, also such a lovely friendly woman, would and have recommended to others, thank you Carys so much x’  AC, Blackwood, Caerphilly

Public Speaking

‘My work involves public speaking, and though I tried to manage the stress it caused, I found the nerves just mounted and I was unable to sleep the night before doing it. Dealing with this fear in sessions at Oaks Hypnotherapy meant that I was finally able to treat it as just in a day’s work!’ WB – Cardiff, South Glamorgan.

Examination Stress

‘As a student I’ve done better in coursework than exams because I panic in exams. My college helped me by letting me sit exams in a room with just a few others. My mum and dad found out about hypnotherapy. I’d never heard of it but Carys was very sympathetic to the problem and helped me make my exam writing reflect my abilities not my nerves.’ SF – Pontypridd, Mid Glamorgan.

Alcohol Abuse

‘A couple of years ago I started drinking. The problems I was having got better but the drinking didn’t. A friend told me about hypnotherapy and what surprised me about the sessions was that they helped me do what I wanted to do, but couldn’t manage on my own. Working with Carys was a life changer.’ EB  – Caerphilly,  Gwent.

Fear Of Flying

‘I decided to have hypnotherapy for a fear of flying which I’ve always had.  I wished I’d done it sooner as after only a few sessions with Carys, I was able to fly off on holiday without a care in the world.  I must admit, I was a little sceptical at first but can honestly say that my fear of flying is now gone.  I’m delighted’ AH – Newport, Gwent.

‘I’d been experiencing intense anxiety for a few years which was starting to affect all aspects of my life.  I contacted Carys and explained how nervous I was about hypnotherapy, which she fully understood.  I had six sessions of therapy with this lovely lady, what a difference she has made. I honestly can’t thank her enough.’ PT – Pontypool, Gwent.

Smoking Cessation

‘Having been unable to give up smoking for many years and trying every remedy on the market, I decided to try hypnotherapy.  On meeting Carys, I felt immediately at ease and relaxed, she is an extremely warm person who is very passionate about what she does.  Thank you so much Carys, I haven’t smoked a single cigarette for six weeks now, and haven’t wanted to, you have changed my life!’ SC – Blackwood, Gwent.
