Hypnotherapy can be a highly effective treatment for phobias. A phobia is much more than being slightly fearful of something. Fear itself is a natural and necessary emotion which we all need to initiate our fight or flight response to certain situations. However, phobias differ in that they elicit an exaggerated and often irrational response to situations, objects, places, feelings, insects and animals. They can cause extreme anxiety which can really have a negative effect on the way we live our lives. Phobias, at their worst, can make us so anxious that we try to protect ourselves by avoiding certain places and situations.

There are several possible explanations as to how they may manifest:

  • Following a traumatic event/incident.
  • A response learned in early life from the people around us.
  • Some of us may be genetically more prone to anxiety than others.

Hypnotherapy works really quickly and is highly successful as a treatment for phobias. Here are some of the most common:

  • Arachnophobia (fear of spiders)
  • Claustrophobia (fear of small spaces)
  • Agoraphobia (fear of places that may cause panic)
  • Ophidiophobia (fear of snakes)
  • Mysophobia (fear of germs)
  • Acrophobia (fear of heights)
  • Emetophobia (fear of vomiting)

Whatever the reason phobias exist, and however irrational they may seem, they are very real and extremely frightening for the person experiencing them. At your initial consultation we’ll discuss your particular experience and how this is affecting you in your daily life. Once we’ve established the root cause of your problem, we’ll follow up with hypnotherapy sessions which will be unique to your individual needs. Under hypnosis, you’ll be in a deeply relaxed state enabling me to communicate directly with your subconscious mind. We’ll firstly work on helping you to reduce your response to whatever is causing you a problem. We’ll then progress to techniques designed to help you permanently eliminate your phobia.
